Everyone Counts OC is a part of a national effort to better understand homelessness. The Point In Time (PIT) Count is a federally mandated biennial count conducted in communities across the country to estimate the number of people experiencing unsheltered homelessness on a single night. Volunteers are needed to support the event during early morning and late evening shifts on the following dates:

🟠North Service Planning Area: Wednesday January 28
🟠South Service Planning Area: Thursday January 29

The OC Health Care Agency (HCA) has actively engaged with the community in the program planning process to support the development of the first Behavioral Health Integrated Plan which will go into effect on July 1, 2026.
As part of this process, the HCA will be hosting three regional in-person community meetings and two virtual community meetings. These regional meetings will provide an overview of findings from the community planning process and updates related to programs and services that will be included in the Behavioral Health Integrated Plan.

Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the great leaders of the Civil Rights movement, demonstrating the effectiveness of nonviolent demonstration to gain social justice. Through his organization of sit-ins, marches, boycotts, and peaceful demonstrations, he earned the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964.
Dr. King’s speeches and words still have a lasting impact on America and the world. The principles he preached continue to inspire the next generation of activists and leaders and remind us that change is possible.
Today, we honor his legacy and reaffirm our commitment in creating a better future for all.

On Friday I attended the ribbon cutting for the Clerk- Recorder on Wheels. The new mobile van by OC Clerk Recorder Hugh Nguyen brings essential services to the community in a convenient and accessible way.
Services offered include: vital records, passport services, marriage licenses and ceremonies, fictitious business name registrations, and official copies of property records. Service availability may depend on location and event logistics.

Last Thursday, I had the honor of celebrating former Chief Nunes on his retirement. With 32 years in the service, 28 years at Buena Park Police Department, Chief Nunes has truly embodied leadership and integrity.

Last Wednesday, I had the privilege to recognize former Mayor Art Brown, at the dedication of the new Art Brown Metrolink Station.
Former Mayor Brown has served the City of Buena Park for 32 years, including 8 terms as mayor. As one of the major proponents for the opening of this station in 2007, this recognition serves as a testament to his commitment to the connectivity and economic well-being of the Buena Park community and the greater region.
